NEW HEPATITIS B RESOURCES FROM CDC'S HEPATITIS BRANCH

The Hepatitis Branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has several new resources on hepatitis B for health professionals and their patients.

"Hepatitis B and You" is a health education program designed for women who test positive for the hepatitis B virus during pregnancy. Health care workers can use the program to present information on the cause, transmission, and prevention of hepatitis B. Available online in HTML, PowerPoint, or PDF format, the educational materials are written at a sixth-grade reading level in order to reach mothers with low literacy skills.

CDC's Hepatitis Branch reports: "Use of this specialized program with a large group of women from a county health department has improved the rate of completion for both the hepatitis B vaccination series and serologic follow-up by 50 percent."

To view or download this free program from the website of CDC's Hepatitis Branch, go to:
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/b/education/index.htm

Two new patient education brochures are also available: "Prevent Hepatitis B: Get Vaccinated!" and "If You Have Chronic Hepatitis B." These brochures provide important information about hepatitis B prevention and treatment in an easy-to-read format.

These free brochures can be downloaded directly. To obtain a camera-ready copy of "Prevent Hepatitis B: Get Vaccinated!" (PDF format, 8.5 X 14" -- use legal-size paper!), go to:
