Mom Knows Best: Although college students might be soaking up a lot of knowledge in school, there's one piece of information that may not be sinking
in: the importance of getting vaccinated against the flu. While the CDC recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get a flu vaccine every season,
college-aged adults have low vaccination rates of just 8 to 30 percent. Additionally, college students are at a particularly high risk of getting and spreading the flu because of exposure to high-touch areas like common living
spaces and classrooms, and through social activities. To help educate college-aged adults and encourage vaccination against the flu, Families Fighting Flu, in partnership with bioCSL Inc. and Alana's Foundation, have launched this new public service announcement (PSA). |

CDC Expert Commentary - Ruling Out Poliovirus in Cases of Acute Flaccid Paralysis: In this CDC Expert Commentary from
Medscape, Dr. Jane Seward. a medical epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), discusses how
to identify or rule out poliomyelitis in cases of acute flaccid paralysis. Although poliovirus is no longer endemic in the United States,
there is always the possibility that it could be imported. That's why it is important to exclude poliovirus infection in clinically compatible,
unexplained cases of acute flaccid paralysis, to ensure that any case of poliomyelitis is quickly identified and investigated. |

An Urgent Need to Vaccinate in Emergencies: Doctors working in refugee camps know all too well that epidemics spread rapidly in
settings like these and that more emergency immunization campaigns are needed to prevent them. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) wants
to make pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV), which can prevent deadly
diseases, systematically available in emergency settings. |
