Increasing Adult Vaccination Rates: WhatWorks
WhatWorks is an online self-study course that participants can complete at their own pace. It can also be used as a reference and can be accessed at anytime. It is available free of charge. The course is intended for physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and is also appropriate for other healthcare professionals who provide immunization services and education to adults. The National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases presents training courses each year by satellite broadcast or webcast. These courses are presented in conjunction with the Public Health Training Network. Continuing education credit is awarded for all courses. For more information about the upcoming schedule or to review previous trainings, including archived webcasts.
Epidemiology & Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases
A comprehensive overview of the principles of vaccination, general recommendations, immunization strategies for providers, and specific information about vaccine-preventable disease and the vaccines that prevent them. This series is no longer being delivered via satellite or live webcast. The 2008 series will be available on DVD and Web-on-Demand no later than May 1, 2008. Continuing Education credit will be available for each individual 3-hour session. Information about distribution of DVDs and other details about the course are forthcoming. Immunization Update. An annual update, highlighting current and late-breaking immunization issues. 2.5 hours.
Vaccines for International Travel
An overview of vaccination recommendations for international travelers. 2.5 hours.
Influenza: Preparing for the Next Pandemic
Technical and programmatic issues dealing with the prospect of an upcoming influenza epidemic. 2.5 hours.
Surveillance of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases
Provides guidelines for vaccine-preventable disease surveillance, case investigation, and outbreak control. 3.5 hours.
The Immunization Encounter: Critical Issues
Addresses issues related to a routine immunization clinic encounter: patient intake and screening, vaccine administration, vaccine management, documentation, vaccine adverse events management and reporting, and resources for staff orientation and development. 2.5 hours.
Adult Immunization Update
Addresses the impact of vaccine-preventable diseases on adults; recommended vaccines for adults, including indications and contraindications; coverage among various demographic and risk groups; and strategies to improve coverage levels. 2.5 hours.
